1. What this is
PaperToSheet is an AI-assisted tool that helps you turn invoices, receipts, and similar documents into spreadsheet-ready data. This policy describes how we handle the limited information involved in running that tool today. We will update it as the product matures.
Note · TODO: final legal review before launch.
2. Local and demo modes
The product can run in local extraction mode. In local mode, extraction runs in your browser and your files are NOT uploaded to an AI provider or to our servers. The document you choose is processed on your device, and the extracted results stay in your browser session unless you explicitly export them.
Demo/sample mode is separate: it uses sample invoice data rather than reading your uploaded document.
3. Information we collect
- Waitlist email (optional). If you choose to join the waitlist or contact us, we collect the email address and any details you provide so we can reply and let you know when paid features are available.
- Basic analytics (limited, and expanding later). We may record simple, non-identifying product events (for example, that an extraction started or an export happened) to understand which features are useful. We do not use this to build a profile of you.
- Documents. In demo mode we do not collect your documents (see section 2). If your account or deployment uses a real extraction provider, your document may be sent to that provider to perform extraction — see section 5.
Note · TODO: add DPA / GDPR / CCPA details (legal basis, data subject rights, regional notices) before launch.
4. Local storage on your device
To support the free daily limit, we store a small usage counter in your browser's local storage (for example, how many conversions you have run today). This data lives on your device, is not sent to us, and can be cleared at any time by clearing your browser's site data.
5. Third-party providers
We may offer extraction powered by third-party AI and processing providers. When that is enabled for your account, documents you submit may be transmitted to and processed by those providers to perform the extraction. We will update this policy to name the relevant providers and describe what is shared before any such processing is turned on for your account.
Note · TODO: storage retention + encryption policy when a real provider is enabled (including sub-processor list and transfer mechanisms).
6. Data retention
In local/demo mode, files are not stored on our servers, so there is nothing for us to retain or delete on the server side. Any extracted results exist only in your browser session and in files you export to your own device.
We retain waitlist and contact emails for as long as needed to respond to you and to send relevant product updates, until you ask us to remove them. We do not claim permanent or guaranteed deletion of any backups or logs at this stage; our retention practices will be formalized before launch.
7. Beta warning — sensitive documents
Please do not upload highly sensitive documents during the beta. While local mode processes files in your browser, this is early software and we cannot make security guarantees. Avoid documents containing information such as government IDs, full payment card numbers, health records, or anything you are not comfortable processing in an unaudited beta tool.
8. Children's privacy
PaperToSheet is a business tool and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will take reasonable steps to remove it.
9. Changes to this policy
As the product evolves — especially when real extraction providers are enabled — we will revise this policy and update the "last updated" date above. Significant changes will be communicated where appropriate.
